lipari, spiagge bianche>> Lipari is the largest island of the archipelago: it offers a great number of services, such as bars, restaurants, supermarkets, night clubs, piano bars with live music, pharmacies, a hospital (only on this island), an archaeological museum, an open-air theatre and social and cultural events organized by local associations and institutions.

The island is located in the very heart of the archipelago and is in fact the transport hub of the Aeolian Archipelago, from which it is possible to reach and visit the other islands by public transportation (hydrofoils and ferries) and by the traditional fisherman boats.

Lipari is divided in two main areas: Lipari: is the most important town with a port and a marina, a castle rock with an important museum, streets and lanes with shops, bars, restaurants and other haunts. Only 2 miles away there is the town of Canneto, which is the second largest town where almost 1.5 mile beaches can be found . In Canneto you can find shops, supermarkets, post offices and banks and also a small pier, where guided trips to the other islands start.
In particular, these two areas are connected continuously (even at night during high season) from a very frequent bus service.
Most beaches are armoured with pebbles or small to medium sized cobbles. They can be easily reached on foot, by car, by motor scooter or solely by sea.

>> Our tip :
Lipari is the ideal destination for those who come for the first time to the Aeolian islands and want to take advantage of its central position for trips and excursions to the other islands. Thanks to its large dimension with respect to the other islands, Lipari offers both more relaxing areas, ideal for families, and more "active" areas, dedicated to young people who want to live the island's nightlife.
It is a good destination also in low season periods, when the weather is not ideal for beach life: it offers a nice town centre full of shopping opportunities and other alternative activities such as a visit to the important Aeolian Archeological Museum, to the Cathedral and to other small churches, naturalistic itineraries, the tour around the island's panoramic view points, a visit to the pumice cave.
The island offers a large number of good quality and comfortable accommodations (self catering holiday houses, hotels, apartment hotels and B&Bs). For this reason it is easy to find the best solution for your needs even last minute, (even though if you book early you have a better choice!). Prices are affordable

salina, isole eolie, lago di lingua>> Salina is the second largest island. We suggest you to always rent a car or a motor scooter during your stay because the towns are far from each other.
Salina is the "greenest island: it is famous for its Natural Reserve which covers half of its surface and can be reached by following the awesome naturalistic itineraries dedicated to both expert and novice ramblers who want to enjoy the enchanting view on the isle and on the close islands of Panarea and Stromboli.

Beaches are mainly armoured with medium sized cobbles and can be freely accessed; the only sand beach, which is very small and full of tourists in high season is Rinella beach, where there is also the second port of the isle for hydrofoils and ferries. A relaxing vacation is guaranteed if you decide to stay in one of the many small villas located a bit far from the three towns of the isle. Salina is in fact divided into three municipalities: Santa Marina, Malfa and Leni, each one with a town, shops, bars and supermarkets.
Santa Marina, which is also the main port of the island, has bars, restaurants, some piano-bars and a moderate nightlife, while Malfa and Leni (both located far from the sea and to be reached by car or motor scooter with a 5 minutes trip) are the best places to spend a holiday in the countryside and taste the typical flavours of this island.

>> Our tip :
Salina is the ideal island for families and couples and for those who want to spend a relaxing holiday in the countryside. We also suggest you to rent a car or motor scooter, no matter where you decide to stay.
Due to its central position in the archipelago, the island is well connected by hydrofoils and ferries. Hotels are not so numerous, even though new accommodations and B&Bs have been created in recent years. There are instead many self catering holiday houses of average quality and comfort located in the three municipalities. We suggest you to book in time, if you prefer spending your vacation close to the sea, like in Santa Marina, Lingua and Rinella. Prices are lower in the hill areas like Malfa, Leni and Pollara and higher for accommodations close to the sea.

isola di vulcano, eolie>> Vulcano is divided in the “Vulcano Porto” and “ Vulcano Piano” areas. Vulcano Porto is located in the centre of the island and is small enough to walk around. From here, trips to the other islands are organised every day.
Vulcano Piano is located on the hill of Vulcano and is 4.5 miles far from Vulcano Porto and from the sea. It is a green and relaxing area, the ideal place for a quiet and serene holiday.

The most famous beach, the “Sabbie Nere” (black sand) is the only existing sand beach in the Aeolian islands. The isle is characterised by the volcanic bubbling mud pit, where different pathologies can be treated, by the sea issuing volcanic gases that make the sea water always hot, and by the thermal pools structure opened a few years ago.
Open-air ramblers will love to climb to the volcano's crater, where a unique view can be enjoyed. Nightlife offers a few bars with live music and some open-air disco clubs.

>> Our tip :
The isle of Vulcano, which is not so large, suits better those who want to live the sea and enjoy the mud therapy: tourists like to come here mainly during high season periods. The shopping area is quite small and there are no alternative activities to beach life. There is a fair number of accommodations (self catering holiday houses, hotels, apartment hotels and B&Bs) and the right solution can be easily found even by late bookers. Prices are affordable.

stromboli, isole eolie, >>Stromboli like Vulcano, can be walked around quite easily and its beaches are all made of black volcanic sand. The active volcano of the isle makes it magic and fascinating and attracts tourists from all over the world who want to watch its eruptions either from the sea or from the crater.
Non-residents' cars and scooters are not allowed to disembark on the island and this is one of the reasons why it is so silent and peaceful. Little lanes and typical white Aeolian houses are also part of this magic world.

Stromboli (like all the smaller islands of the archipelago) doesn't offer many journeys by boat to the other islands, however during summer it is well connected by hydrofoils. This island has not much to offer form nightlife point of view but it is surely a good destination to relax and enjoy sea and sun bathing.

>> Our tip :
Stromboli is a magic island and gets into your heart but it doesn't offer much in terms of comfort, accommodations, services and shopping.
It is the ideal destination for backpackers and simplicity lovers and for those who look for uncontaminated nature. The island is small and there are very few hotels, self catering holiday houses and B&Bs: we suggest you to book your vacation early.
Accommodation prices are medium/high with respect to the other islands of the archipelago, and also basic goods are more expensive.

panarea, isole eolie>> Panarea, the smallest Aeolian island, is the preferred destination for young people especially during the month of August, who come here for its disco clubs and parties organised everyday on the many yachts anchored here. There are no beaches, except for the Zimmari bay at less than 1 mile from the little town..
Once you get to Panarea, we suggest you to rent a boat to visit the many jutting rocks offshore and the awesome and uncontaminated inlets. During the other months of the year, this is the best destination for a relaxing holiday, far from noise and pollution.

Tidy and clean, Panarea is characterised by the little lanes and the typical white Aeolian houses. Cars and scooters cannot be ferried to the island. Like Stromboli, Panarea is quite far from the other islands, so it is not the ideal start point for journeys.

>> Our tip :
Panarea is very small and can be visited in a very short time: its main characteristics is the typical Aeolian architecture you can find all over the island.
It has no beaches, so it is not recommended to families with children, while it is the ideal destination for young people (in July and August) and young couples.
There are not many accommodations: most of them are hotels and the few available holiday houses should be booked very early. Accommodation prices are higher than on the other islands of the archipelago and also basic goods are quite expensive.

alicudi, eolie isole>> Filicudi and Alicudi are the farthest and less organised islands, but they offer a really relaxing holiday, far from any noise or social life.

- Filicudi is quite big and we suggest you to rent a scooter while your are staying there. There are no beaches, so a boat should be rented to fully enjoy the magic of this island, which offers the best coasts and underwater scenes of the whole archipelago.
Even though cars and scooters can be ferried to the island, and incredible
peace and a surreal silence can be enjoyed during the evening.

- Alicudi offers a kind of "extreme" vacation: except from the port, a food shop, a little bar and the only restaurant in the only hotel of the isle, there is nothing else.

>> Our tip :
Filicudi and Alicudi are wild and remote islands and a vacation here is not for everybody, in particular these are not the ideal destinations for families with children.
These are the ideal places to stay for uncontaminated nature lovers and for those who can live without the comforts of modern life.
Alicudi has only little lanes and large steps requiring a certain physical preparation to reach the houses located on the island's slopes and has no sand or gravel beaches. There are very few accommodations (2 or 3 small hotels in Filicudi and only 1 hotel in Alicudi) and some self catering holiday houses with a very simple structure. Prices are affordable
