Alicudi is the most solitary island of the Aeolian archipelago: no more than 140 persons live here and the isle seems to be lost in time.
Far from commercial routes, with very few residents and without the mass tourism faced by the other islands, Alicudi maintains its natural fascination.
Only one inhabited village and a few pastel colour houses located at the foot of the mountain that culminates in the “Filo dell’Arpa” where you can admire a wonderful panorama.
The persons who visit Alicudi experience a life dimension that you cannot find anywhere else.
Because of the conformation of the ground, there are no roads or lanes suitable for motor vehicles, including cars, scooters and bicycles.
You can only go up the stairs made of lava stone by foot and with the support of the nice donkeys bred on the isle that carry goods and luggage from the port to the houses located on the slope. Alicudi is the most western isle of the archipelago.
It has a round shape and its name derives from the ancient name “Ericusa” due to the many heaths that characterise the landscape.
If you want to take a tour of the isle by boat, you can address to the local fishermen who rent boats near the port.
Cars and scooters cannot circulate on Alicudi.
